OUR HISTORY
Wild Bubba's is located on Farm Road 812, some twelve miles south of Austin. The land on which it's located was once owned by an officer in Santa Anna's invading army who in turn traded the land for a horse and saddle to return to Mexico.
The Elroy Community (also known as Driskill's Pasture, Dutch Waterhole, and Hume) was established in 1892 and named by a local store owner for his son, Leroy. A post office was established in 1899 with George L. Hume as postmaster. Jesse Driskill is remembered as the cattleman who built the Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin.
Elroy is situated along Mayhard (Maha) Creek, where German and Dutch shepherds watered their flocks. Elroy became a predominantly Swedish farming and ranching community. Its commercial importance began to decline in the 1930s but remains of the Old Elroy General Store and cotton gin remain silent reminders of Elroy's past.
How the name "Leroy" became "Elroy" is still a mystery!
